Rachel Keller
Rachel Keller is a fictional character from The Ring film series. The character was developed by producer-writer Ehren Kruger and voiced by Naomi Watts, serves as the main character in The Ring and The Ring Two which share a number of similarities with Reiko Asakawa from the first Japanese films.Introduced in the 2002 film, Rachel is an investigative journalist trying to figure out ways to escape the death penalty after viewing an unlucky video tape she discovers while investigating the death of her niece. Rachel must dig into the background of Samara Morgan after her son is diagnosed with mysterious illnesses. Ruth asks Rachel Keller as an investigative journalist to investigate the mystery surrounding Katie's death. She informs Rachel that she discovered her daughter's distorted corpse in the closet, and that her official cause of death was due to a heart attack, regardless of Katie being an incredibly healthy teenager. Katie's close friends recount to Rachel the tale of the cursed videotape myth and Katie's friend Becca being institutionalized for witnessing Katie die. Katie's boyfriend and two friends were killed in bizarre accidents that same night around 10 at night. Rachel is able to travel to Shelter Mountain Inn and stays at Cabin 12, which is the same cabin where Katie and her friends saw the videotape they believed was cursed. Rachel finds the tape and begins to watch it. The phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel looks to Noah Clay, her ex-boyfriend and a video analyst to seek assistance. Later, Rachel discovers that Aidan, her son with Noah, watched the tape at the same time that Noah calls her and tells him that he trusts her. Rachel looks through the tape to find the lighthouse and finds that it's located on Moesko Island. This was the home of Anna Morgan, an evil horse breeder who was cursed to appear on the cursed tape. After a thorough investigation, Rachel discovers Anna had an adopted daughter, named Samara who had the ability to create disturbing images into the minds of people or animals, as well as objects. Rachel is introduced to Anna's widower Richard, but he makes her leave after she starts to ask questions about Samara.
