McCormack, who was born into a family with no entertainment connections at all according to her family tree. is the child of a clinical therapist and an owner of an ice cream parlor. Following her parents' divorce in 1990, she was enrolled at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut and earned a BA in Comparative Arts. When she was just 12, her stage career started when she performed in "Amahl, as well as the Night Visitors" which was a Christmas opera. In the theater, the actress performed for years and her roles were later transferred to the screen. Today, McCormack is recognized as one of the most flexible artistes in Hollywood. McCormack is married to producer and director Michael Morris and has three children.
